About

Tara Barnes' functional and sculptural ceramic work explores the sensual indulgence of dessert while pairing the issue of gluttony with joy. Inspired by Rococo and Baroque painters and the presentation and creation of dessert, Barnes develops sculptures that also serve as platters and trays for dessert. These objects become part of the act of indulgence and allow the consumer to enter the world of gluttony with these women. Barnes earned her BFA in ceramics and art education from Bowling Green State University.  Recent awards include a workshop assistantship at Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts (Gaitlinburg, TN) and "Best of Show" in the juried Cake exhibition at The International Museum of Dinnerware Design. Most recently Tara had her piece "To Have and To Hold" acquired for the permanent collection in The International Museum of Dinnerware Design.
